Debatable vs Oyaple (Oyapple)
Debatable matches you with a stranger who disagrees with you for a live video debate, judged by AI. Oyaple does the same rare thing in a much faster shape: three 30-second speeches a side, a judge that always picks a winner, and a rating. They differ on round length, on who sets the format and topic, on what the judge tells you, and on what happens after the round.
Every Oyaple claim below comes from oyaple.com, including its rules, Pro, and tournament pages, as read on October 28, 2026. The site is a single-page app with no public About page, so where it does not say something we say "not stated on their site" rather than guess. If something there changes, tell us and we will fix it.
The short version
You want a three-minute round, right now.
Fixed format, 20 seconds to prepare, 30-second speeches, a winner every time. Free to play, Google sign-in, an ELO ladder, friendly duels with friends, and a Pro plan for coaching insights.
You want a real argument, not a sprint.
Agree the topic and format with your opponent, talk it through or use timed turns, and get a written decision that names the argument that decided it. Rated ladder, replays, spectator votes, tournaments, and an AI opponent when nobody is waiting.

What a round looks like on each
Oyaple
You sign in with Google and are matched within seconds. Five random motions appear and you and your opponent each vote for one; if you agree, that is the motion, and if not, one of your two picks is chosen at random. You pick For or Against the same way. You get 20 seconds to strategize, then the clock runs: Debater A opens for 30 seconds, B opens, A rebuts, B rebuts, A closes, B closes. The judge scores five criteria out of 20 each, the higher total wins, and there are no ties and no appeals. The homepage puts it in its own words: "It's not about changing minds. It's about winning." Leave mid-round and you forfeit with a rating penalty. Their homepage claims over 10,000 players and more than 50,000 matches; we have not verified either number.
Debatable
You sign in with Google, Apple, or email, answer a few optional questions about how you want to be matched, and enter the queue, which shows the real number of people waiting. Both of you accept the match before the room opens. The room starts with Choose topic: spin one, propose your own, pull one from where you two differ, or strike down a shortlist. Then you choose together between a conversation and timed turns, and each press Ready. When the round ends the AI judge writes a decision naming who won and which argument decided it, scores both sides, and the result moves your rating. If everyone in the room agreed to record, the replay lands on Watch with the decision above it.
Where each one is weaker
Thirty seconds a speech rewards the first clean sentence over the better argument. The judge always declares a winner and does not take appeals, and the site does not publish its rubric or say who runs it. No avatar option is stated, so camera-shy people have audio-only or nothing.
A round takes longer and takes two people agreeing on things before it starts, which is a feature until nobody is waiting. The queue is smaller at some hours, which is why the site runs Clash Hours and offers an AI opponent while you wait. Avatar rounds cost a little rating in tournaments.
Questions people ask
What is Oyaple?
Oyaple, often spelled Oyapple on TikTok, describes itself as real-time 1v1 quickfire debating. You sign in, get matched within seconds, vote on a motion from five random options, choose For or Against, take 20 seconds to prepare, and each give three 30-second speeches. An AI judge scores five criteria out of 20 each and always declares a winner. Free to play, with Pro at $5 a month or $50 a year.
What is Debatable?
A live debate arena: you are matched with a stranger who disagrees with you for a video debate judged by AI. You agree the topic together, argue as a conversation or in timed turns, and get a written decision with both sides scored. Plus a rated ladder, replays, spectator votes, tournaments, and an AI opponent when nobody is waiting.
Which one is faster?
Oyaple. Its whole round is about three minutes of speaking plus 20 seconds of prep, and the format is fixed. A Debatable round is longer and the two of you choose the format and topic together.
Is either one free?
Oyaple's site says it is free to everyone, with an optional Pro plan at $5 a month or $50 a year. On Debatable, live rounds with people are free after sign-in; paid plans start at $10 a year and cover AI practice. Pricing.
Do both use video?
Yes. Oyaple runs on camera with an audio-only fallback and requires cameras in tournament play. On Debatable every debater publishes video, as themselves or behind a moving avatar, with no camera-off seat.
Try the longer round, then decide.
A topic you both chose, a real person on the other side, and a judge who explains the result.
