What happens when you press the button

01

Join the queue

The page shows the real number of people waiting. No padding.

02

Both say yes

A match is proposed. You both accept before the room opens, so nobody sits in front of an empty chair.

03

Agree on a topic

Spin one, propose your own, or pull one from where you two differ. Both of you accept it.

04

Argue

Talk it through, or use timed turns. Camera on, as yourself or as a moving avatar.

05

Read the decision

Who won, why, both sides scored, and a rated record that moves.

You say the thing. Someone who thinks you are wrong says why. A judge who heard both of you writes down who made the better case.

Why a stranger is better than a group chat

They are actually there.

Nobody can leave you on read. The other person accepted the match, sees your face, and has a clock running too.

They took the other side on purpose.

The topic is one you both accepted, and the sides are set before anyone speaks. You are not arguing with someone who half agrees.

Someone keeps score.

The AI judge follows a published rubric and scores the argument, not the opinion. It explains the result in writing.

It goes on your record.

Rated rounds move your rating and your place on the leaderboard. Replays can go to Watch if everyone in the room agrees.

Who you get matched with

Before you queue, the Match Desk asks a few optional questions: what you like talking about, whose views you agree with, whose views you would enjoy arguing against, and whether you want someone who disagrees, someone near your rating, or the first person available. Answer them or skip them. Either way you meet a real person, and the room puts you on opposite sides of a topic you both accepted.

If you only want the political fight, debate the other side is the page for that.

Questions people ask

Can I debate someone right now?

If someone is in the queue, yes, within a minute or two. The queue page shows the real number of people waiting. When it is empty you can stay available and get notified the moment someone shows up, come back at a Clash Hour (9 pm in New York, London, and India every day), or argue with the AI while you wait.

Do I pick the topic?

You pick it together. The room opens with Choose topic: spin one from the bank, propose your own, use Where you differ, or strike down a shortlist with your opponent. Nothing starts until both of you accept the topic.

Is it free?

Live rounds with people are free after you sign in with Google, Apple, or email. The AI opponent gives you a free round of about ten minutes after sign-in. Paid plans start at $10 a year for Individual and $12 a month for Voice; neither is needed to debate a person. Pricing.

Who decides who won?

An AI judge reads the transcript, names a winner, scores both sides, and writes out why. The rubric, the model panel, and the human appeal path are at /judge-integrity.

Do I have to be on camera?

Yes, every debater publishes video. You can be on camera as yourself or behind an animated avatar that moves with you. There is no camera-off seat. You can leave, report, or block at any time.
