Fair warning about our own column: Down2Debate's AI opponent is the main event, and it is available the moment you open the app. Debatable's AI opponent is the backup for when nobody is waiting; the product is built around the person on the other side, which means sometimes waiting for one.

What a round looks like on each

Down2Debate

You open the app, pick a topic from its library, choose Pro or Con, and pick an AI difficulty or wait for a human match. The round is six turns of 45 seconds each, spoken, with no typing. When it ends, the AI judge scores logic, persuasiveness and rebuttal quality and gives you reasoning and tips. Your rating moves and you can see where you sit on the leaderboard.

Debatable

You sign in with Google, Apple or email, answer a few questions about how you want to be matched, and enter the queue. When two people are seated, you settle on a topic together and take opposite sides. The round runs on video, as an open conversation or with timed speeches. When it ends, the AI judge writes a decision: who won, a score out of 100 for each side, the clash that decided it, and the reason. Your rating updates, and if both of you agree, the replay goes on Watch.

Where each one is weaker

Down2Debate

iPhone only, with no web or Android version yet. No video. Six 45-second turns is a fixed shape, so there is no room for a longer exchange. One update since launch, in April 2026, so treat new features as unlikely until the listing moves. What the paid Basic plan adds is not stated on the store page.

Debatable

You need a camera and a quiet half hour, and someone has to be in the queue when you are. No phone app on the stores. The AI opponent is there for solo practice, but it is not the main event.

Questions people ask

What is Down2Debate?

An iPhone app from Clave LLC for voice debates. You pick a topic from its library, choose Pro or Con, and argue in six turns of 45 seconds against an AI opponent with five difficulty levels or against a person through its matchmaking. An AI judge scores the round and explains the result, and wins and losses move a rating. Its site says it is free to use; the App Store listing shows a paid Basic plan.

What is Debatable?

A live debate platform where two people meet on camera in the browser, agree on a topic, take opposite sides and talk it out, with timed speeches if they want them. An AI judge then writes a decision naming the winner, scoring both sides out of 100 and explaining why. Rounds feed a public leaderboard, and replays can be watched without an account.

Does either one use video?

Debatable does, and the camera is on for everyone in a seat. Down2Debate is voice only, with no keyboard and no camera.

Which one works on my phone?

Down2Debate is an iPhone app (iOS 15.1 or later); its site lists Google Play as coming soon and there is no web version. Debatable runs in the browser on a phone or a laptop and has no app store listing.

Is Down2Debate still being updated?

Its App Store listing shows a first release on March 22, 2026 and one update, version 1.0.1, on April 10, 2026. Nothing newer had shipped when we checked on October 28, 2026. The app still installs and runs.

Which should I pick?

Pick Down2Debate if you want short voice rounds on your phone, mostly against an AI, with a score at the end. Pick Debatable if you want a real person on camera, a topic you both agree to, and a written decision you can read back.

Try the round, then decide.

One sign-in, a topic you both accept, a real person on the other side, and a judge who explains the result.
